The Department of Mechanical Engineering is part of Carnegie Mellon's engineering college, the Carnegie Institute of Technology.

The department provides a stimulating environment for the free development and exchange of ideas, particularly in areas of interdisciplinary research. Our faculty are the intellectual leaders in their respective fields of research and we offer our students the opportunity to work one-on-one with the faculty in advancing the frontiers of knowledge.
