Organization ProfileBELLEVUE COLLEGEServing more than 39,000 students per year, Bellevue College (BCC) is the third largest institution of higher learning in Washington state. Bellevue College sends more students to four-year schools than any of its Washington state peers. BC leads in distance learning, as well as, serving more students through internet and televised classes than any of Washington's community colleges. BC's programs meet a wide variety of educational needs - from in-depth preparation for advanced study, to rapid training for immediate employment, to brief classes for personal enrichment. Associate degrees and professional/technical certificates are offered in the traditional arts, humanities and sciences, as well as in information technology, telecommunications, business, health sciences, social sciences, educational development and a range of professional and technical areas. BC's Continuing Education Program - the largest among Washington's 34 community and technical colleges - offers hundreds of short-term classes for career skill development and personal enrichment. BC is known nationally for the quality and breadth of its Information Technology (IT) programs. Its intense "Fast-Track" IT programs have served as models for similar programs across the nation. Its National Workforce Center for Emerging Technologies builds the quality of IT skills training nationwide by defining skill standards and educating public school and community college instructors. BC has added further depth to its already strong liberal arts programs through the establishment of the Center for Liberal Arts. The Center kindles creative, interdisciplinary discussion across the campus through an international scholar-in-residence program, a campus-wide reading project, and a variety of seminars and speakers. The college also has founded a new Health Sciences Education and Wellness Institute, which is working to develop BC's strengths in these fields. BC has received national recognition for its leadership with major grants from the National Science Foundation and through awards such as the national Sen. Paul Simon Award for Campus Internationalization from The Association of International Educators; the 2006 national John L. Blackburn Award for Exemplary Models of Administrative Leadership from the American Association of University Administrators (AAUA) for its pioneering work in diversity; the national Charles Kennedy Equity Award from the Association of Community College Trustees; and the National Service-Learning and Civic Engagement Collaboration Award from the Community College National Center of Community Engagement.
