Applicants with PhD degrees in organic chemistry are welcomed for a post-doctoral research position on a multidisciplinary research team. Our program is directed toward the synthesis and evaluation of ligand systems and metal complexes for use as catalytic antioxidants. We are especially interested in developing complexes that are able to catalytically destroy peroxynitrite, a species which plays a central role in chronic pain mechanisms. We will test all viable candidates in animal models of neuropathic and inflammatory pain as stand-alone analgesics and as adjunctive agents with opioids and NSAIDs. Experience in heterocyclic chemistry and the synthesis of porphyrins is desirable.
