The University of Massachusetts Amherst, a dynamic and multicultural campus, seeks a Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Campus Life.
Nestled in idyllic Amherst, Massachusetts - recently named "The top college town in North America" - the University of Massachusetts Amherst is one of America's preeminent public research universities. Consistently ranked among the top public research universities in the nation, the campus offers a rich cultural environment in a rural setting close to major urban centers. Over 24,000 students from all 50 states and over 70 countries attend the university, located on 1,450 acres in the scenic Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts.
Nine schools and colleges offer more than 85 undergraduate majors, 68 master's and 48 doctoral degree programs, many counted among the top programs in the nation and world. The 1,159 full-time faculty members are dedicated teachers and world-renowned researchers and UMass Amherst has regularly been listed among the top performers in terms of faculty awards. The university boasts the academically strongest students in its history; students participate in 240 organizations, 19 NCAA Division I athletic teams, extensive intramurals, living-learning residence halls, community service, and internships. With one of the largest residential life systems in the nation, UMass Amherst houses approximately 12,000 students on campus.

The Vice Chancellor provides leadership and management of Student Affairs units on the Amherst campus including Dean of Students, Center for Student Development (support services for students of color, student activities, Student Government Association), career center, residential life and housing services, health services, new students' orientation, the Office of Parent Services, and Everywoman's Center.
The Vice Chancellor also has responsibility for implementing trustee policy pertaining to student life and has primary responsibility for consulting with student organizations on policy issues.
The Vice Chancellor reports directly to the Chancellor and, as one of the principal administrative officers on campus, plays a major role in overall policy development and campus management.

Candidates must have an advanced academic degree and extensive administrative experience in a senior management role in student affairs or a related field.
The successful candidate will also have a demonstrated ability to maintain open and effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty, administrators and trustees, in addition to experience at a residential university.
The Vice Chancellor is expected to be responsive to student needs, demonstrate leadership in a diverse community, and be committed to working on a multicultural campus.
