University of Windsor

Under the direction of a new President and a new Provost, the University of Windsor is in the midst of a major transformation. UWindsor is advantageously located on the Canada/US border, North America’s most important trade and business gateway. Its community, the Windsor-Essex County region, is undergoing enormous change. The University’s commitment to excellence in teaching, research and creative activity makes a vital contribution to socio-economic development at the regional, national, and international levels.

About the Faculty of Engineering

Students who enter UWindsor Engineering are committed to making a difference; when they graduate, they have the skill, knowledge, and passion to do so. The Faculty has four departments offering various graduate and undergraduate programs: civil and environmental; mechanical, automotive, and materials; electrical and computing; and industrial and manufacturing systems engineering.

Engineering has 1,000 undergraduate students and 400 graduate students, a substantial number of whom are international. Supported and inspired by a diverse and talented faculty and staff of 100, UWindsor Engineering is proud of its students’ recent successes in national and international competitions.

UWindsor will soon begin construction of the Faculty’s 300,000-square foot, $112-million Centre for Engineering Innovation. This Centre will serve as a dynamic hub for learning, research, and industry liaison. Recent program developments include innovative new graduate program initiatives and a support program for first-year engineering students.

UWindsor is the host university for the AUTO21 Network Centre of Excellence, the largest NCE in Canada, has a number of close industrial partnerships, and is part of the world-class, multimillion-dollar Automotive Research and Development Centre.

About the Position

The incoming Dean will provide visionary leadership and strategic and hands-on guidance, and will promote the Faculty’s absolute commitment to excellence in teaching and research. (S)he will have demonstrated academic administrative and budget experience and entrepreneurial abilities. The successful candidate will be an outstanding communicator, a strong advocate for the Faculty and the profession, and a builder of collaborative relationships internal and external to the University. (S)he will also work to ensure that UWindsor Engineering is a preferred destination for high-calibre students and faculty.

The incoming Dean will be a professional engineer with excellent academic and scholarly credentials, and the ability to provide inclusive, empowering, and team-oriented leadership to this flagship Faculty. As a member of the University’s senior management team, the Dean will take a lead role in enhancing relationships with local, national, and international governments, industries, donors, and alumni, so as to raise the profile and influence of the Faculty and the University.
