SUNY College at Brockport

The College at Brockport, State University of New York, invites application for the above named positions:

Purpose:

These full-time faculty positions are dedicated to enhancing scholarly and teaching perspectives on diversity at The College at Brockport, State University of New York for the educational benefit of our students. The position also provides teaching research and service opportunities, and mentoring and career development for scholars whose work will enhance the diversity of the academic community at the College. Applications will be considered from every relevant discipline. Applications are especially encouraged from candidates whose life experiences provide a critical perspective that comes from a non-traditional educational background or an understanding of the experiences of groups historically underrepresented in higher education. These contributions may include public service addressing the needs of our increasingly diverse society, efforts to advance equitable access and outcomes of higher education for women and minorities, or research focusing on underserved populations or understanding issues of racial, ethnic or gender inequalities, religion, socioeconomic status and disabilities.

Description:

These are full-time, non-tenure track, two-year faculty appointments

Presidential Fellows are eligible to apply for tenure-track faculty positions for which they are qualified that may become available at the College during or following the two-year appointment

The appointment will be within one (or more) of the existing academic departments at the College

Applicants and nominees are expected to indicate the department that best fits their educational background and teaching and scholarly interests. Appointments may be divided between two departments if appropriate.

Duties:

Teach five courses per academic year (3-2 or 2-3 loads)

Engage in scholarship/creative activity

Minimal service commitments

Assume leadership roles in the College by serving as mentors/role models to students

Collaborate on campus-wide projects designed to enrich the educational experiences of Brockport students in regard to issues of diversity and foster greater consciousness of diversity issues within the College community. Examples of such expectations may include: engaging in activities that lead to the advancement of the College mission of preparing students for ..."civic engagement in a culturally diverse society and in globally interdependent communities" and the College goal of: "making an institution-wide commitment to embrace diversity in its fullest sense by setting goals and linking these goals with Middle States expectations and our own expectations for achieving a more inclusive community."


Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

An appropriate terminal degree (although ABD candidates with an expected degree conferral date of August 22, 2010 will be considered)

A record of or evidence of potential for success in teaching and scholarship

A strong commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion within The College at Brockport community

Ability to teach several existing courses within one or more departments at Brockport

Ability to develop and teach diversity-related courses not currently offered within one or more departments at Brockport

Preferred Qualifications

Terminal degree completed

Documented record of scholarly or creative productivity

An official copy of the transcript from the college or university from which the terminal degree was granted is also required.
