Founded in 1947, University of Maryland University College (UMUC) is an accredited institution dedicated to providing working adults, military personnel, and students worldwide with the opportunity to achieve their academic goals through online instruction, accelerated academic programs, and classroom-based courses taught during the daytime, evenings, and weekends. We are currently seeking candidates to fill the Director of Disability Support Services within the Office of Student Affairs.
The Director of Disability Support Services is responsible for the coordination of support services to undergraduate and graduate online and on-site students with disabilities. The Director of Disability Support Services provides direct services to students, responds to inquiries regarding disability services, and coordinates with University faculty and staff to ensure that students receive appropriate accommodations. Reporting to the Associate Provost of Student Affairs & University Registrar, the Director works with a growing population of students with a variety of disabilities each semester, will manage the current caseload of approximately 150 students, and ill plan for the growth and scalability of the disabled student support services. Requires a BA/BS degree and 3 years experience working with individuals with disabilities in a post-secondary educational setting.
Qualified candidates will have demonstrated knowledge of current disability law and best practices in providing accommodations in a post-secondary environment; demonstrated knowledge of current disability law and best practices in providing accommodations in a post-secondary educational setting; and demonstrated knowledge and application with Section 504 and Americans with Disabilities Act; demonstrated knowledge of Web accessibility challenges and familiarity with assistive technology and software used by students with disabilities.
In additional, qualified candidates will have excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; demonstrated ability in problem-solving and trouble-shooting issues; be capable of prioritizing and managing multiple administrative tasks; and capable of working collaboratively in a group and/or independently.
