Political Science Instructor
Lincoln Land Community College

The college is seeking applicants for a full-time, tenure track faculty position in Political Science for fall 2010. LLCC is seeking innovative instructors who place student success and student learning as top priorities. The college is particularly interested in applicants who demonstrate an interest in active learning approaches, student assessment techniques, and utilizing technology in the classroom. The college is also interested in individuals with a commitment to departmental, institutional, and community service. Duties will include teaching 15 contact hours per semester. Some opportunities exist for overload and summer teaching assignments.

The Department of Social Sciences consists of 22 full-time and approximately 55 adjunct faculty members per semester. Serving over 10,000 students per year, the department delivers approximately 515 sections of instruction annually in Anthropology, Criminal Justice, Early Childhood Education, Economics, Education, Law Enforcement, History, Physical Education Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology. The department has two computerized classrooms/labs and an additional twelve “smart” classrooms equipped with CPU, Proxima, Elmo, VCR, DVD, and (for some rooms) a SMART Board. All Classrooms and faculty offices also have Internet access via a T-1 line and are part of a campus local area network.

The department encourages continuing professional development via attendance at national conferences and through local training, with funding available via application. Starting salary is determined by education level and experience and will be between $38,068 and $63,327. The college provides an excellent fringe benefit package and is supportive of faculty development.

Job Requirements

A master’s degree in Political Science, with a substantive focus in American politics, is required. A Ph.D. in Political Science is preferred. Teaching experience, especially at the college level, is viewed favorably. A strong candidate will also have demonstrated experience with instructional applications of computers and other educational technology in the teaching of Political Science or be interested in learning these. Candidates should be prepared to teach both American Politics and State and Local Government.
