The Department of African American Studies (DAAS) at NORTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor appointment beginning Fall 2010.

We seek candidates with strong research and teaching interests in the African, African American and/or Black Diasporic experience. Although specialization is open, we will be most excited to consider applicants who are working in fields that overlap with our strategic plan for expanding the department’s intellectual reach. These fields include: public health (epidemiology); business (micro-enterprise/ micro-finance); technology (community policy/ innovation) and political economy.

The mission of Northeastern University’s Department of African American Studies is to mentor intellectual leaders, develop emerging scholars and train global citizens who are able to explore the world from diverse perspectives in an ever increasingly global and interdisciplinary world.

As a community of international and interdisciplinary scholars, practitioners and community leaders, we aim to create and translate knowledge to meet global and societal needs.

Job Requirements

Candidates with a variety of methodological and pedagogical approaches will be considered. The successful candidate will have completed a Ph.D. in an appropriate discipline by the beginning date of appointment (August 2010).

The successful scholar will maintain an active program of research, scholarship, and publication in her/his area of specialization with an underlying commitment to interdisciplinary research and undergraduate teaching.
