Led since 1992 by Ronald L. Arenson, MD, Alexander R. Margulis Distinguished Professor of Radiology, the Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging at UCSF is recognized nationally and internationally as eminent. With UCSF's unwavering commitment to discovery and clinical innovation, to expanding facilities to support a growing UCSF Health and to educating the next generation of radiologists and scientists, this recruitment is critical to sustaining a century-long legacy of academic excellence.
At present, the Department is comprised of over 150 academic faculty working in partnership with UCSF's dedicated professional, technical and support staff. The Department is a major contributor to the University's $1.1B scientific enterprise which is supported by more than $500M received annually in extramural support for research. In 2013, the University as a whole ranked #1 among public recipients and #2 overall in funding from the National Institutes of Health. The Department was ranked #4 in NIH funding in 2015. Patients benefit from access to the Department's faculty who are nationally respected for subspecialty expertise.
