The Department of Bioengineering in the College of Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley, invites applications for one or more tenure-track positions at the Assistant Professor level in Bioengineering, with an expected start date of July 1, 2018. At least one position is in the broad areas of biological engineering and synthetic biology, including computational biology, bioinformatics, and systems biology.

The UC Berkeley Department of Bioengineering is at the forefront of integrating engineering and biological sciences to discover fundamental principles of biological systems, and applying this understanding to a variety of applications, particularly clinical technologies that advance healthcare. The Bioengineering Department has strong ties with other departments in the UC Berkeley College of Engineering and enjoys close relationships with the faculty of biological sciences and chemistry, as well as with the School of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Our interdisciplinary program offers outstanding opportunities for collaboration with distinguished researchers at UC Berkeley, UCSF, the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and within the greater Bay Area biotechnology community. This exceptional environment for teaching and research will provide the successful candidate with unique opportunities for intellectual and technological leadership.

Job Requirements

Applicants must have completed all degree requirements for the Ph.D. or equivalent degree with the exception of dissertation at the time of application. The Ph.D. or equivalent degree must be completed within one year of start date. Preferred qualifications include evidence of outstanding scholarship within a relevant discipline and a commitment to working in an inclusive environment. The successful applicant will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Bioengineering and have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and leadership.
