Walsh University

Walsh University and its growing DeVille School of Business invites applications (rank open) for a tenure-track position in economics beginning Fall 2018.

The preferred candidate will hold an earned terminal degree (PhD) with a specialty in economics or a confirmed dissertation date from an institution accredited by AACSB International prior to the intended start-date. Candidates with A Master’s Degree in Economics and at least five years of experience in the discipline will be considered.

The successful candidate should be experienced and comfortable teaching in an environment that includes a global perspective as well as integrated and experiential learning pedagogy.

Walsh University is a Catholic Institution which offers liberal arts undergraduate, graduate and adult completion programs and is dedicated to educating its students to become leaders in service to others through a value-based education with an international perspective in the Judeo-Christian tradition.

The DeVille School of Business recently completed a total curriculum redesign of its undergraduate and MBA curricula.

Responsibilities: Reporting directly to the Dean, the successful candidate will play a vital role in the design and instruction of courses in both the undergraduate and MBA programs of the DeVille School of Business at Walsh University.

The successful candidate will engage in teaching-related responsibilities and duties which include but are not limited to:

  • Instructing 24 -credit hours, 12 credit hours in each of the fall and spring semesters distributed across the undergraduate and MBA programs with appropriate release for scholarship
  • Teaching, developing, and revising courses and curriculum for graduate and undergraduate programs
  • Participating in assurance of learning
  • Attending and actively participating in general activities of the DeVille School of Business
  • Actively engaging in ongoing professional development in their field of instruction.

The successful candidate will provide an agenda for pursuing scholarly research consistent with Boyer’s Model, with the University and DeVille School of Business missions, and with AACSB expectations.

The successful candidate will show evidence of, or demonstrate potential for, published research in professional journals and/or other appropriate scholarly artifacts, including presenting at conferences of professional associations.

The successful candidate will engage in service activities which include but are not limited to providing professional assistance to the profession, to the community, to the University and to the DeVille School of Business in accordance with his/her professional acumen and breadth of experience and will attend and actively participate in University governance activities.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience and/or evidence of excellence in teaching at the University level consistent with the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning
  • A terminal degree in economics (PhD) or a confirmed dissertation date with a specialty in economics required for tenure track position. Masters degree in economics with 5 years or more of managerial or teaching experience in Economics required for non-tenure track position.
  • Ability to interact with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Documented scholarly agenda and evidence of scholarly activities
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of current theory and practice
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a collaborative faculty environment
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in engaging with students
  • The ability to maintain AACSB business accreditation requirements for “Scholarly Academic” (SA) for tenure track position or “Scholarly Practitioner” (SP) for non-tenure track position.
