FULL TIME, TENURE TRACK TEACHING POSITION ENGLISH

Salary: $59,503 - $88,193 annually

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Compton Community College District is seeking a dynamic, effective English instructor whose focus is student learning for the Compton College. Teaching assignments include basic skills, developmental, and transferable courses. Other professional responsibilities include participation in department, division, and college-wide meetings, curriculum and program development; assessment of student learning; and other related duties.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Masterís degree in English, literature, comparative literature, or composition; OR bachelorís degree in any of the above and masterís degree in linguistics, TESL, speech, education with a specialization in reading, creative writing, or journalism; OR the equivalent. Candidates not possessing the required qualifications as stated above must complete the supplemental page of the district application and explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above; OR possess a valid California Community Colleges instructor credential in appropriate subject issued prior to July 1, 1990 (per California Education Code 87355); AND have sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of college students, and of individuals with disabilities.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Recent community college teaching experience; coursework and/or teaching experience in reading; demonstrated ability to develop a variety of effective teaching techniques and assessment methods; ability to engage student interest to support a variety of learning styles; ability to promote the use of instructional technology in curriculum delivery; effective oral and written communication skills.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Full time, tenure-track teaching position effective August 23, 2018. The starting salary ranges from $59,503 - $88,193 annually, depending on education and experience. Excellent fringe benefits are included
