FULL TIME, TENURE TRACK POSITION KINESIOLOGY/WOMEN’S SOFTBALL COACH

Salary: $59,503 - $88,193

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Compton Community College District is seeking an innovative individual for a full time tenure-track teaching assignment in physical education for the Compton College. The program is designed to meet the educational needs of students majoring in physical education. Duties associated with the position include participation in a variety of campus and divisional activities such as faculty meetings, committee work, student activities, office hours, and curriculum/instructional development. The selected candidate will also serve as head women’s softball coach (in and off season) and the instructor of record for both the in-season and off-season soft conditioning classes. Selected candidates will be invited for an interview, which will include a teaching demonstration on an assigned topic.

 

 

 

 

Job Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (for instructors teaching physical education classes, including coaching):

• Master's degree in physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology,

physiology of exercise or adaptive physical education; OR

• Bachelor’s in any of the above AND Master’s in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation

administration, or physical therapy OR

• Valid California Community College Credential in appropriate subject.

• The equivalent - Candidates not possessing the required qualifications as stated above, must complete the supplemental page

of the district application and explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above.

• Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of college students,

and of individuals with disabilities.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (for coaching only):

Bachelor’s degree in any area and at least two years of demonstrated successful high school or collegiate-level coaching experience as a women’s softball coach; AND have sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of college students, and of individuals with disabilities.

Note: coaches without a master’s degree are limited to coaching during the in-season and off-season course of that sport. These coaches may not teach physical education classes.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Background in physical education; recent community college teaching experience.

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

 

Full time, tenure-track teaching position effective August 23, 2018. SALARY

The starting salary ranges from $59,503 - $88,193 annually, depending on education and experience. Excellent fringe benefits are included.
