Musicology Faculty - Tenure-track
Harford Community College

This is a 10-month, tenure-track faculty position scheduled to begin August 2018. This person will join a team of 30 dynamic, innovative and eager faculty team members in the Arts and Humanities division engaged in making a difference in the lives of students.

In addition to teaching courses such as Art of Listening, Popular Music of the United States, World Music, and more, the faculty member shares administrative responsibilities within the music program, to include organizing and staffing music program events such as student recitals and scholarship auditions. The faculty member serves as lead for adjunct faculty teaching music history courses as well as course assessments.

Job Requirements

A master's degree in musicology or a closely-related field, a demonstrated minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in musicology, and a minimum of one year or equivalent full-time teaching experience, preferably at a community college, are required. A doctorate is preferred.

Applicants must have experience developing instructional material; demonstrated ability to teach courses in western classical music; demonstrated ability to teach a range of other music history courses that may include world music, popular music and jazz; demonstrated interest or experience in assessment of student learning; experience using evidence-based pedagogies in the teaching of musicology to continually improve student learning; and demonstrated competency with current technology and learning management systems. Experience teaching on-line as well as face-to-face classes is preferred. A familiarity with electronic music and recording technology is beneficial.

The ability to interact with students and potential students outside the classroom environment in discipline-related activities, effective communication skills, and a well-articulated understanding of the role of community colleges and their students are required.

Candidates will be asked to validate teaching experience. A teaching demonstration will be part of the interview process.

Salary will be commensurate with education, licensure, and experience.
