Assistant Professor for Nursing (Medical/Surgical) - Full Time Tenure-Track
Columbia Basin College

Salary: $59,280.00 Annually

Columbia Basin College ("CBC" or the "College") seeks an outstanding and enthusiastic individual who can teach a range of nursing courses (lecture, laboratory and/or clinical instruction) consistent with the ongoing needs of the Nursing Department. This is a full-time, tenure track position in the Health Sciences Division at Columbia Basin College. This position reports to Interim Dean for Health Sciences.

The salary for this position is $59,280 for a 176-day contract over the Instructional Year (Fall/Winter/Spring Quarters). Additional compensation may be available for assignment of summer quarter courses or courses taught outside of the full-time position during fall, winter and spring quarters.

Relocation expenses are considered for the employment offer for the successful candidate if the candidate relocates to the Tri-Cities area from outside of a 175-mile radius.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop, prepare and teach college-approved Nursing courses in accordance with approved course descriptions and class schedules (includes the use of multimedia technology in the classroom). Primary teaching assignment will be an emphasis in fundamentals of Medical/Surgical nursing preferred. Clinical assignments may be days, evenings and/or weekends;
  • Development of syllabi, reading lists and divisional responsibilities in the selections of texts and related teaching resources;
  • Maintain a minimum of five (5) regularly scheduled office hours each week at times that provide reasonable opportunities for students to meet with faculty;
  • Maintain, submit, and retain accurate academic records, including verification of class rosters and student grades, by dates requested by the College and to comply with state and federal records retention laws;
  • Orient students at the beginning of each class to syllabi and addenda, subject to subsequent modification and notice to students;
  • Maintaining contact with one's academic discipline, the development of knowledge in one's field of specialization, and the teaching/learning process;
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, businesses, advisory committees, and other educational partners;
  • Serve on College and Division committees;
  • Engage in shared governance by participating in department, division and College committees and assisting in the formulation of policy pertaining to educational programs;
  • Participate in commencement ceremonies;‎
  • Develop and attend professional improvement activities in order to maintain contact with one's academic discipline, including teaching/learning processes and/or development of knowledge in one's field of specialization;
  • Participate in outreach activities to promote educational programs;
  • Participate in special College projects, surveys, and studies;
  • Assist in the preparation of reports as needed by College units (e.g., Student Services, Grants Office, Athletic Department, Institutional Effectiveness) and by the College in general (i.e., for accreditations, program review and so forth);
  • Develop new instructional materials, techniques, course offerings or major revisions of the same;
  • Participate in community service activities consistent with the College's mission;
  • Participate in student career development and related advising or mentoring activities and special retention programs;
  • Attend College-mandated trainings, professional development activities and/or meetings; and
  • Perform other duties normally assigned to full-time faculty members.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Washington State;
  • Master's Degree in Nursing or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing with concurrent enrollment in a Master's Program in Nursing from a regionally accredited college or university;
  • Three (3) full-time equivalent years of Medical/Surgical nursing work experience;
  • Must be able to meet vocational certification standards;
  • Strong medical/surgical background;
  • Must be computer literate, including internet and other computerized resources; and
  • Must be flexible and demonstrate ability to work well as a team member in a group.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Community college teaching experience in the relevant chosen discipline;
  • Relevant and current teaching experience in a qualified medical facility;
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching community college students.
