Associate Research Scientist
Columbia University

The Department of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics is looking for an Associate Research Scientist (ARS) to work with Professor Marco Giometto on the simulation of atmospheric boundary­ layer flows (large-­eddy simulations).

Research Responsibilities: The ARS incumbent will interact with faculty and research team to develop numerical tools and theoretical frameworks for the study of atmospheric boundary-layer flows, with emphasis on non-equilibrium effects. He/she will leverage and utilize laboratory capabilities (clusters, staff, lab assistants, etc.) efficiently. He/she will be responsible for maintaining a strong relationship between the research team and serve as liaison with the PI. The ARS incumbent will perform academic research in Fluid Mechanics, Turbulence, Atmospheric Boundary-Layer flows and related fields. The incumbent acts as Co­I in concert with Professor Giometto.

The ARS will report directly to Professor Giometto.

Characteristic duties and responsibilities of the ARS include but are not limited to: Providing oversight over research team and conduct theoretical work, will be responsible for short, medium, and long­term strategic development of grant proposal, and serve as liaison with the local engineering community.

Job Requirements

PhD degree in Civil, Environmental or Mechanical Engineering. The candidate must have at least 5 years of experience in field of fluid mechanics and turbulence characterization or modeling.

Preferred Qualifications: Special consideration will be given to candidates having a strong research accomplishment in the numerical simulation and theoretical analysis of atmospheric boundary-layer turbulence.
