NAES Field Lab Research Coordinator

The Nevada Agricultural Experiment Station (NAES) at the University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting a Field Lab Research Coordinator. This position will be an integral component of the University of Nevada, Reno, the Nevada Agricultural Experiment Station, the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension and the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources.
The Nevada Agricultural Experiment Station (NAES) maintains several field stations across the state of Nevada on which research is conducted. The two major research stations are located in Reno, NV, and serve multiple faculty researchers and their projects. The position will assist and coordinate the work and needs of faculty using the NAES agricultural field labs and serve as a liaison between the faculty and NAES staff at the field stations. The incumbent provides subject matter expertise regarding NAES resources such as land space, funding, equipment, and is responsible for collaborating with researchers to ensure adequate resources are available for research opportunities. Primary job duties include assisting in research design and set-up; coordination of field preparation and maintenance activities to successfully support research efforts including fencing, soil preparation, seeding, weeding, spraying, fertilizing and watering; monitoring plots and greenhouse bays for general problems e.g. pests and diseases; establishing irrigation system and scheduling based on evapotranspiration data and crop coefficients. Additional job duties to include assisting with Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and animal care and health issues.
A Bachelorís degree in agriculture or closely related field with 4 years of related professional work experience, OR a Masterís degree in agriculture or closely related field and 2 years of related professional work experience. Related experience could include farm management, ranch management, or research for a federal or state agricultural agency.
Basic knowledge of field research design, field plot preparation/maintenance, greenhouse management practices, pesticide/herbicide storage/handling, and animal husbandry.
