Stanford Medicine is committed to the vision of excellence in all allied fields within the neurosciences. The Stanford Department of Pathology embraces this vision, and accordingly here we announce our intent to recruit an outstanding physician-scientist with major focus in investigative neuropathology, ideally with a strong interest and record of accomplishment in neurodegenerative diseases. Based on the applicant's qualifications and career goals, candidates may be hired in any rank of the University Tenure Line (UTL) or Medical Center Line (MCL). The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor, which will be determined based on qualifications and experience of the candidate.

The major criteria for appointment for faculty in the MCL are excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, and scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine. The predominant criterion for appointment in the University Tenure Line is a major commitment to research and teaching, although often combined with clinical responsibilities.

Successful candidates will join the faculty in the Department of Pathology, which currently includes a Nobel Prize winner, multiple members of the National Academies of Sciences and Medicine, and many other investigators with national and international distinction. The neuropathology section includes preeminent faculty with international recognition in the pathology of neurodegenerative and muscle and nerve diseases. In addition to its outstanding research program, the Department of Pathology is responsible for over 3.4 million laboratory tests and 50,000 anatomic pathology specimens annually, with major expansions in out-patient and in-patient care scheduled for 2019. The neuropathology section is responsible for approximately 900 neurosurgical specimens and 450 consultative cases annually. Our department attracts and trains outstanding graduate students, residents, and fellows.
