Tenure Track: Biomaterials for Devices, Regenerative Medicine, Biosensors and/or Bioinstrumentation

The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst invites applications for multiple tenure/tenure-track faculty positions at the assistant and associate professor ranks in the areas of biomaterials, bioinstrumentation, and biomechanics.
The Department of Biomedical Engineering was established in 2017. Thus, successful candidates will have the opportunity to help shape the growth of the new Department of Biomedical Engineering. The department will represent the core of biomedical engineering research and teaching at UMass Amherst and will leverage synergies with other departments in the College as well as with the new Institute of Applied Life Sciences (IALS: https://www.umass.edu/ials/), which was established in 2014 with an investment of more than $150 million from the Massachusetts Life Science Center and the University. IALS manages more than 20 core equipment facilities to enable its translational mission (https://www.umass.edu/ials/core-facilities). There are also avenues for collaboration with the UMass Medical School located in Worcester. The University of Massachusetts Amherst (http://www.umass.edu), the flagship campus of the University of Massachusetts system, is a nationally ranked public research university and home to over 22,000 undergraduate and 6,000 graduate students. The 1,430 acre campus is located in the scenic Pioneer valley of western Massachusetts, 90 miles from Boston and 175 miles from New York City. UMass Amherst, along with Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke and Smith colleges, is a member of the Five College Consortium and the Academic Career network. The region boasts a rural setting with easy access to Boston, Hartford, and New York City. Amherst is nestled between the Berkshire Mountains, Holyoke Range and Pelham Hills providing many recreational opportunities.
The candidates are expected to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses; supervise graduate students and postdoctoral fellows; contribute significantly to the advancement of basic science and engineering as evidenced by scholarly publications; develop a nationally recognized program of sponsored research; and have an understanding of diversity issues and their educational importance.
Candidates must have an earned doctorate in Biomedical Engineering or related field. Post-doctoral research experience is desired for the rank of assistant professor. For associate professors, the successful candidate will possess academic credentials of the highest quality and have a strong record of teaching, research, and extramural funding. Applicants with research and teaching expertise in areas of biomaterials for devices and regenerative medicine or biosensors and bioinstrumentation are especially encouraged. Anticipated starting date of September 1, 2019.
