Assistant Professor Biological Physics Experiment or Theory
Kansas State University
The Department of Physics at Kansas State University seeks an experimental or theoretical physicist with research interests in the frontier areas of biological physics. Specific areas of interest may include the physics of neuroscience, proto-biological functions and the emergence of the living state, or biological problems at the cellular and molecular levels; however, this list is not exhaustive.
The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Physics Department. Candidates must have a PhD (or an equivalent degree) in physics or a closely related field. The successful candidate should also demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring of students and to serving a diverse population.
The Department has outstanding experimental and theoretical Condensed Matter physics programs involving six faculty members involved in research related to biological or soft matter physics. Faculty research interests include cellular adhesion and migration, aggregation and assembly phenomena for both proteins and particles, stochastic processes in vesicular systems, self-sustaining processes, synthesis and self-assembly of nanoparticles, surface structure, light scattering, and metallic and conducting polymer nanowire fabrication and applications.
The soft matter group has strong ties and collaborations with faculty in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Grain Science, and the Johnson Cancer Research Center.
