Assistant/Associate Professor of Law Enforcement
Metropolitan State University

METROPOLITAN STATE UNIVERSITY, a vibrant and growing public, urban university, is seeking to fill a full-time, probationary, tenure track faculty position, at the rank of assistant or associate, within the School of Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice in the College of Community Studies and Public Affairs. The person hired into this position will be expected to teach courses in the Bachelor of Sciences (BS) in Law Enforcement and the Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Criminal Justice programs, and provide leadership in law enforcement curriculum design and program implementation grounded in justice, community, and the pillars of 21st Century Policing.

Candidates are expected to be committed to multiculturalism and working with a diverse student body to provide the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for culturally competent practice.

Responsibilities:

  • Faculty members are expected to develop and effectively teach undergraduate Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice courses
  • Engage in scholarly research or creative achievement related to law enforcement and criminal justice
  • Provide evidence of continuing preparation and study relevant to assigned duties
  • Contribute to student growth and development through advising and assistance
  • Engage in service to the university and community

Outstanding candidates will demonstrate a commitment to serving a culturally diverse student body through delivering a student-centered education in a liberal arts and sciences context and will possess the ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Masterís degree in Law Enforcement or Criminal Justice, or a closely related discipline, from a regionally accredited university.
  • Experience teaching law enforcement related courses at the post-secondary level.
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving a nontraditional, culturally, economically and linguistically diverse student body.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • D. or other terminal degree in a discipline closely related to Law Enforcement or Criminal Justice or a J.D. from a regionally accredited institution. Candidates who are ABD status near completion will be considered.
  • Active line of research or creative contributions to law enforcement as a profession and/or academic discipline.
  • Professional experience as a law enforcement officer in a city, county, tribal, state, or federal law enforcement agency.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working under the Minnesota Professional Peace Officer Education (PPOE) programming and Minnesota Board of Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) licensure requirements.
  • Experience in advising/mentoring students and/or professionals.
  • Ability to contribute to Law Enforcement curriculum design and program development.

Salary:† Salary is commensurate with education and experience, and is determined by the salary placement process as outlined in the Inter Faculty Organization (IFO) Master Agreement.
