Communication Faculty with a Focus in International Communication and Media
Metropolitan State University

METROPOLITAN STATE UNIVERSITY, a vibrant and growing public, urban university, is seeking to fill a full-time, probationary (tenure-track) assistant professor position within the Professional Communication Program of the School of Communication, Writing and the Arts located in the College of Liberal Arts beginning August 2019.


  • Faculty members are expected to demonstrate ability to teach courses in international/intercultural communication/media effectively at the undergraduate level;
  • Engage in scholarly research or creative achievement;
  • Provide evidence of continuing preparation and study;
  • Contribute to student growth and development through advising and assistance and engage in service to the university and community;
  • Outstanding candidates will demonstrate a commitment to serving a culturally diverse student body through delivering a student-centered education in a liberal arts context and will possess the ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Communication.† Candidates who will finish their Ph.D before August 19, 2019 will be considered;
  • Research interest in international/intercultural media/communication;
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in university-level teaching in courses;
  • Secondary interest in at least one of the following areas:† health communication; environmental communication; organizational communication; public relations; and/or risk communication;
  • Evidence of teaching or research in the secondary interest area;
  • Demonstrated commitment to linking theoretical and practical learning; and
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving a culturally diverse student population.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience integrating global/cultural studies into a range of communication courses;
  • Interest in teaching media studies courses currently available;
  • Experience teaching media or integrating media into courses; and
  • Experience with community based instruction such as service learning, support for student groups, and/or helping students find internships and/or fellowships.

Salary:† Salary is commensurate with education and experience, and is determined by the salary placement process as outlined in the Inter Faculty Organization (IFO) Master Agreement.
