Preventing obesity in LMICs is a global health priority. The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health seeks to hire a nutritional epidemiologist at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, in the Program in Human Nutrition, Department of International Health to develop, strengthen and expand research to assess and prevent overweight and obesity in LMICs undergoing a “nutrition transition”.
The candidate will develop research initiatives that will include writing grants and collaborating with faculty across the Department, School, other institutions and governments to investigate the roles of diets, lifestyles, socioeconomic conditions, and the environment as modifiable causes in the prevention of obesity and chronic diseases in impoverished societies.
The faculty member will assume responsibility for teaching a course in the Epidemiology of Obesity in the Nutrition Transition, contribute to other public health courses, advise doctoral and masters’ degree students, and participate in academic life within the School.
The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate in public health, international nutrition, nutritional epidemiology or medicine with a graduate degree in nutrition or public health.
The successful candidate will have excellent quantitative and writing skills; research experience in one or more low income regions of the world; and, a track record or strong potential for attracting funding to conduct population-based obesity research in LMICs. Qualitative research skills, knowledge of dietetics, or experience in the application of systems science to population studies are desirable.
