The Psychology Department at the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh announces a 10-month, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in School Psychology beginning fall 2019.
The Psychology Department offers baccalaureate degrees in Psychology and the combined Master of Arts and Specialist Degree (Certificate of Advanced Study) in School Psychology. The successful candidate should be committed to excellence in graduate training and to supporting the learning and development of children, youth, and families. Successful candidates should be committed to excellence in teaching, research, and service while demonstrating an understanding of and sensitivity to diversity and gender issues.

Responsibilities Include: Active involvement in the administration of the School Psychology MA/CAS program; teaching graduate courses in the School Psychology program and undergraduate courses in the successful candidate’s area of expertise; developing and maintaining an active research program that ideally also engages undergraduate and graduate students in meaningful roles in the research process; supervising School Psychology interns and practicum students; engaging in community outreach appropriate to such supervision, and participating in departmental and college service. The successful candidate may be asked to teach courses in a distance learning format.
Required Qualifications: The candidate must have demonstrated skills and expertise in teaching and research, and the ability to work effectively and collegially with faculty, staff, and administrators. An earned doctorate in school psychology and the requisite training and experience for certification as a School Psychologist in New York State are required for appointment as an Assistant Professor. ABDs will be considered for appointment at a lesser (qualified) rank and salary, upon proof that the applicant’s defense of his/her dissertation will be scheduled within the first year of the appointment. A successful ABD applicant will receive promotion to the rank of Assistant Professor and a salary increment at the start of the semester following verification of the terminal degree completion. An ABD hire will be limited to a one-year appointment, subject to renewal for one year only (2 years maximum).
Preferred Qualifications: An earned doctoral degree from an APA- or NASP-approved School Psychology program.
Salary: $50,000 minimum, plus excellent benefits.
