Job Description

Professional Teaching Fellow - Chemical and Materials Engineering
University of Auckland

About the role

The department has a strong commitment to training our engineering students to a high level of competency, and to be industry-ready at the end of their studies. We achieve this by having academics with academic practice certification, and strong relationships with industry. As such, we are fortunate to have award-winning teachers applying innovative and creative teaching methods and practices.

We are continuously reflective of our teaching practice, course delivery and students' learning, within the context of a rapidly changing technological environment, learning styles and industry needs. We are thus seeking a Professional Teaching Fellow, with a strong focus on teaching, to join our department on the delivery of an excellent Chemical Engineering degree programme, as we undergo a revamp of our current curriculum, and embrace the opportunities for new teaching and learning spaces offered by our new engineering building.

About the department

With a current annual intake of 85 students into our Chemical and Materials (C&M) Engineering undergraduate degree program, our numbers have grown steadily by about 25% over the last ten years. The BE (Hons) degree in Chemical and Materials Engineering is accredited by the United Kingdom based International Institute of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), and to the level of the UK Master of Engineering standard. Internationally our chemical engineering degree is unique and innovative, in that besides its strong process-engineering core, the degree is purposefully integrated with a well-defined materials engineering curriculum. The department's research is internationally recognised, with research strengths in light metals, process control, food engineering, membrane technology, wastewater treatment, biomass refinery, thermal storage systems, biological materials, and surface materials science. Laboratories and facilities for the department's research are world class, and by early 2020, the department will be moving into a brand new, purpose-built, faculty of engineering building in the heart of Auckland city. We expect new opportunities for further growth and development for the research and teaching activities of the department and staff.

Why work for us?

The University is committed to providing an excellent working environment through flexible employment practices and a culture that encourages and supports staff to reach their full potential. Offering five weeks' annual leave, over 300 courses and workshops designed to support your professional development, and standout facilities for staff members who are also parents, it's easy to see why we've recently been voted one of New Zealand's most attractive employers.

*Randstad Awards 2017.
