Associate Dean for Academic Affairs
University of Pikeville

The University of Pikeville's Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine (UP-KYCOM) invites applications for the position of Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. Under the supervision of the Dean of KYCOM, the Associate Dean is directly responsible for the administration of all aspects of the KYCOM academic programs.

  1. Manage and evaluate the Academic Affairs staff
  2. Prepares and recommends a departmental budget
  3. Serve as Chair or Co-chair of the KYCOM Curriculum Committee
  4. Oversee the creation and management of daily class schedules for first and second year KYCOM classes
  5. Oversee the block exam testing process for first and second year classes
  6. Oversee the composition of Medical Student Performance Evaluations (MSPE) for KYCOM students
  7. Assist KYCOM students in preparation for COMLEX Level 1 and 2CE and advise the Dean on the purchase of board preparation materials for KYCOM students
  8. Assist in the preparation of materials and documentation required for COCA and SACS accreditation
  9. Work closely with other assistant and associate deans to ensure coordination and continuity in the daily operations of KYCOM
  10. Provides counseling and guidance to students.
  11. Serves on assigned KYCOM and UPIKE committees
  12. Attends Commencement, White Coat Ceremony, new student orientation, and University of Pikeville Opening Convocation
  13. Assists in the selection of students to attend KYCOM
  14. Other duties as assigned by the KYCOM Dean.

Job Requirements



  • Earned Doctorate degree is required
  • Previous academic and administrative experience preferably with an osteopathic institution.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Must have excellent verbal and writing communication skills
  • Strong critical thinking, anticipatory problem solving and attention to detail is required
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and organize work to complete assignments accurately and within reasonable timeframes
  • Must have current knowledge and skills in utilizing Microsoft Office Applications, including but not limited to Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
  • Must be able to learn and utilize Learning Management Systems such as Canvas; and the University online platform and systems
  • Must demonstrate cooperation, courtesy, and consideration when working with the professional community, KYCOM and UPIKE communities, faculty, students, and the public
  • Must be able to work independently and also as a member of a team
