Curriculum Director, School of Technology
Northcentral University

The Professor/Director of Curriculum Development for the School of Technology oversees activities related to the creation, maintenance, and delivery of University curricula. This position is responsible for the oversight of effective curricula that result in student achievement. The Professor/Director promotes academic growth and development by supervising the development and design of innovative, student-centered courses. This position also includes responsibilities associated with a Faculty appointment such as teaching and academic administration. The Professor/Director of Curriculum Development participates in the University’s overall curriculum planning, development, and evaluation.

Essential Functions as Director Curriculum Development

  • Direct the development, evaluation, and revision of School courses.
  • Lead School of Technology new and revised programs and specialitiesthrough Institutional governance and approval processes.
  • Oversee curriculum improvement for the School at the Master’s, and Doctoral levels, with the exception of the research/dissertation curriculum.
  • Coordinate “hot fixes” of courses with the Instructional Design team.
  • Participate in School-wide instructional evaluation efforts.
  • Represent the School on curriculum committes. Participate in university curriculum initiatives.
  • Ensure existing courses are updated and refreshed on a consistent basis.
  • Integrate new technology into courses to promote student engagement and learning.
  • Provide curriculum innovation and direction.
  • Supervise lead faculty and subject matter experts in the development of curriculum.
  • Evaluate data related to student academic performance to determine needs for curricular change and improvements.
  • Assist with updates of the University Catalog related to curriculum.
  • Collaborate with Directors of Faculty Training and Development and Instructional Design to manage curriculum, oversee new program development, and make staffing recommendations as needed to ensure adequate mentor coverage for courses.
  • Share best practices with faculty mentors through regular communication.
  • Communicate with the leadership team and stakeholders on curricular implementation and timeliness of changes.
  • Ensure courses contain identified program learning outcomes to facilitate assessment of program effectiveness.
  • Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits, meeting deadlines, coordinating resources and meetings in a timely manner.
  • Promotes a graduate culture of scholarship, teaching, service, and practice.
  • Complete all required professional development activities as defined in the Faculty Handbook
  • Reasonable and consistent attendance to fulfill requirements of the position.

Essential Functions as Professor

  • Email/record and post a welcome letter to their assigned students one week prior to the start of course, when feasible, but always within the first week of the course.
  • Record and post a video introduction which will be placed in each course.
  • Answer all student emails within two calendar days which is likely to require responding over weekends. The exception to this requirement is if the Professor is on PTO or when there is a holiday observed by the University.
  • Communication with students will take place within the University learning management system (LMS), University-designated systems and through University assigned email.
  • Contact Student Services (by use of designated means) in the LMS as soon as a Professor determines a student is not actively participating in the course.
  • Contact a student by email and a phone call to encourage re-engagement in the course as soon as Professor determines a student is not actively participating in the course.
  • Return work in a timely manner. Weekly assignments should be returned to the student with meaningful and appropriate feedback (specific return guidelines are provided within each course syllabus). Exceptions to this policy may, in rare instances, be approved by the Dean. host no less than two one-hour synchronous office hour sessions per week. Office hours will be posted in each course.
  • Engage students, providing quality feedback that includes but is not limited to:
  • substantive and reflect a content focus
  • impart knowledge, share resources and dialogue with students
  • include track changes of edits to proper use of mechanics
  • include a summative statement at the beginning or end of documentwith key observations
  • communicate in a manner and with language reflecting support of the student
  • If Professor fulfills all or a portion of their load serving as a Dissertation Chair or Dissertation Committee Member, Professor will:
    • complete NCU Doctoral Student Experience Training (and other training as required).
    • follow dissertation guidelines
    • adhere to timelines required of chairs and committee members
    • be available to students and fellow committee members for synchronous meetings when needed

Job Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Doctorate degree from a regionally accredited institution aligned with School of Technology offerings required, PhD preferred
  • Master aligned with School of Technology offerings.
  • Industry Experience in technical fields preferred.
  • Significant experience leading and participating in curriculum development at the program and course level is required
  • Online teaching experience required
  • Experience in higher education preferred
  • Proficiency in the use of technology in the delivery of education
  • Experience working in a technology-driven enterprise preferred
  • All skills, abilities, and education will be considered for minimum qualifications
