Senior Assistant Librarian, Reference and Instruction

The California State Polytechnic University, Pomona University Library is seeking a flexible, energetic, knowledgeable reference and instruction librarian to join a team committed to collaboration and public service. This librarian provides research consultation and instructional services to students, staff, and faculty. Responsible for liaison relations with faculty and students in the College of Environmental Design, which consists of the following departments: Architecture, Art, Landscape Architecture, Regenerative Studies, and Urban & Regional Planning. Serves on library and university committees, and participates in projects to develop and improve library services.

Responsibilities (Under the guidance of the Head of Reference Services and the Instruction Coordinator):
With a focus on the assigned college or department, participate in and promote the Library’s information literacy program, designing and delivering course-integrated information sessions, creating online guides and tutorials, and assessing student outcomes
Provide specialized and advanced research assistance for students and faculty in the assigned college or departments
Participate in the Library’s general research assistance activities including research help desk, reference by appointment, and web-based interactive reference services
Be responsible for collection management in the assigned subject areas
Participate in library, university, and professional-level service
Engage in regular professional development activities as part of a continuing commitment to increasing effectiveness
Participate in teaching Lib 1500 (3-unit for credit Information Literacy course)

ALA-accredited graduate degree in Library/Information Science or equivalent degree
Experience providing reference service in an academic, public, or corporate library
Experience and/or potential in developing effective library instructions sessions.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with faculty, staff, and students in a culturally diverse and rapidly evolving environment
Knowledge of traditional and electronic reference sources
Ability to work independently and as a team member on a variety of projects simultaneously
Ability and desire to promote library services and collections
Ability to meet expectations for professional growth
Demonstrated ability to contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and/or service and work as well as experience working in an inclusive environment
Experience in using LibGuides and/or online tutorials
Experience with a Content Management System
Experience conducting library presentations or teaching in an academic environment
Collection development experience
Experience in, or a background involving one or more of the following fields: Architecture, Art, Landscape Architecture, Regenerative Studies or Urban & Regional Planning.
