The School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering (MME) in the Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture (VCEA) at Washington State University invites applications from outstanding candidates for two tenure-track/tenured positions at any rank, in the general areas of (a) Manufacturing and Design, and (b) Robotics and Machine learning. Candidates at the Associate/Full Professor rank are preferred, but truly exceptional candidates at the Assistant Professor rank will be considered.
Candidates’ interests and research plan should align with the priorities of the School. The specific areas of interest include, but are not limited to: design for additive manufacturing, micro/nano-manufacturing or a related area of advanced manufacturing, automation and control in next-generation manufacturing technologies, machine learning in measurement and control, agricultural robotics.
MME has significant facilities and engagement in additive manufacturing and design. The current engagement in robotics and machine learning involves collaborative efforts in MME and the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
It is expected that the successful candidates will, in collaboration with the current faculty, play a leading role in building interdisciplinary teams with a substantial externally-funded research portfolio in the respective areas where additional hires are expected in the next few years. In addition, they will need to be effective instructors for undergraduate and graduate classes in mechanical engineering.
Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering or a related field by the time of hire/offer, show a record of accomplishments that demonstrates the potential to become an outstanding scholar and educator and potential to build a robust research program, possess a record of accomplishments demonstrating outstanding scholarly and educational activities, and excellent communication skills.
It is preferred for the applicants to have demonstrated commitment to collaborate with internal and external groups to build successful interdisciplinary teams with substantial externally-funded research portfolios.
Candidates at the Full Professor level must possess superior leadership skills and experience applicable to leading large interdisciplinary research programs.

The School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering currently has over 40 instructional faculty members, 900 undergraduate students, 100 PhD students and 50 MS students.
