The CUNY School of Professional Studies (CUNY SPS) provides online and on campus degree and certificate programs that meet the needs of adults who are looking for a seamless way to finish or transition into a bachelorís degree, earn a masterís degree or certificate in a specialized field, advance in the workplace, or change careers.

Reporting to the Academic Director of the MA and BA in Psychology degree programs, the Academic Program Specialist will, in addition to the CUNY Title Overview, serve as the Academic Directorís deputy on administrative and academic operations of the programs, and, will perform the following responsibilities:

  • Serve as informed in-office admissions contact for prospective students; assist with recruitment activities.
  • Advise graduate students by creating academic plan, processing waivers & exemptions, helping students choose electives, orchestrating registration process, tracking capstone requirements and graduation details.
  • Manage the record-keeping and data analysis for the department.
  • Monitor student progress towards degree; and, participate in end-of-semester academic review and perform needed follow-up.
  • Assist with program development activities.
  • Facilitate and develop the Orientation process, and other programs, to support student learning.
  • Administer various processes regarding faculty support, e.g., instructor appointments for new and existing faculty, course revision process, course DEV to PROD process, workload reporting, textbook assignments, submission of grades to CUNYfirst, and time-sheets.
  • Serve as the liaison between the Psychology program and all other areas of the School.
  • Assist with coordination of events targeted to the BA and MA students.

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

  • Participates in the daily coordination of academic and administrative activities of a College's specialized academic program under management direction.
  • Supports program development, student service delivery, outcome evaluation and instructor/student recruitment, enrollment, and retention.
  • Recommends, implements and evaluates strategies to expand program offerings
  • Prepares analytical and statistical reports for management
  • Develops and maintains relationships with various College offices to improve student and faculty services
  • Serves as resource expert regarding program policies and procedures
  • Oversees office recordkeeping; manages updates of program web and print materials
  • May supervise office operations and/or department budget
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree and four years' relevant experience required.

The preferred candidate will have:

  • Experience providing administrative support in a higher education setting.
  • Experience providing academic advisement and admissions assistance to students.
  • Some experience in a student course management system. Experience with academic planning and course scheduling.
  • Ability to be detail oriented and address concurrent issues and adapt easily to changing priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications, particularly Excel; ability to easily learn new software.
  • Strong writing, reporting, editing, and oral communication skills.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Salary range of $61,593 to $65,817 commensurate with education and experience.
