Clinical Lecturer in Dental Education
Indiana University Northwest

The Clinical Lecturer/Clinical Assistant Professor in the department of Dental Education is a full-time (10-month), non-tenure-track position. The appointee will be responsible for didactic, laboratory, and clinical instruction for baccalaureate dental hygiene and certificate dental assisting students. Additional responsibilities include coordinating and conducting quality assurance reviews in the treatment of patient care, participation in student mentoring, university, division and department committees, community-engaged service and other faculty assignments within the department as determined by the director.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills and a desire to create and participate in an environment that promotes collegiality and collaboration among members of various educational disciplines. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to effective teaching at the undergraduate level, including the ability to teach and effectively communicate with a diverse student population.

The Clinical Lecturer position must hold a Bachelorís Degree from a dental hygiene program or health-related field accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation and possess a certificate in dental assisting (CDA). The Clinical Lecturer with Bachelorís Degree must complete a graduate degree in a dental or health-related field within three years after date of hire. The Clinical Lecturer must have a minimum of five years of clinical practice experience in dental hygiene. Applicants must be licensed or eligible for dental hygiene licensure in the state of Indiana.

Teaching Responsibilities:

  • Teach 12-18 contact hours per semester of undergraduate course work to students representing a diverse population
  • Develop instructional materials to include a detailed course outline, course goals, objectives, audiovisual needs, course activities and evaluation methods that follow established standards
  • Assess course effectiveness through student evaluations
  • Review CODA accreditation guidelines annually for continual improvement
  • Mentor adjunct faculty members in course development and necessary content

Service Responsibilities:

  • Advise current students regarding their clinical, laboratory and/or didactic performance
  • Participate in program marketing, student recruitment, and student progression activities
  • Assist with the facilitation, monitoring and evaluation of curricular outcomes
  • Participate in decision making, communication and implementation of program policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with the Director, faculty and students to adjudicate student issues according to Dental Education policies
  • Participate in professional organizations and formal/informal learning activities to enhance both personal and professional development
  • Assist with program assessment and continuous quality improvement activities
  • Provide input into the programsí mission, goals, development, and curricular revisions
  • Participate with program accreditation efforts
  • Serve on department, division, and campus committees

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications for Clinical Lecturer:

  • Bachelorís Degree in dental hygiene or health-related discipline accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.
  • Commitment to completing a graduate degree in a dental or health-related field within three years of date of hire
  • Eligible for LDH/RDH licensure in Indiana with local anesthesia permit
  • Certified Dental Assistant (CDA)
  • Minimum 5 years of clinical practice experience in dental hygiene

Preferred Qualifications for Clinical Lecturer and for Clinical Assistant Professor:

  • Active membership in ADEA, ADHA, and ADAA
  • Didactic and clinical teaching experience in dental hygiene and dental assisting
