Advanced Manufacturing and Human Factors and Ergonomics
West Virginia University

The Department of Industrial and Management Systems Engineering (IMSE) at West Virginia University (WVU) invites applications and nominations for anticipated multiple tenure-track faculty positions at the level of Assistant/Associate Professor in Advanced Manufacturing and Human Factors and Ergonomics. Anticipated start date is August 2019.

  • The specific research areas of interest for the Advanced Manufacturing position include but are not limited to Smart Manufacturing, Nano Manufacturing, Biomedical Manufacturing, Sustainable and Green Manufacturing as well as Collaborative Robotics.
  • The specific research areas of interest for the Human Factors and Ergonomics position include but are not limited to Cognitive Systems Engineering, Human Machine Interaction, Adaptive Interface Design as well as Human Adaptation to Technology (Robotics, Prosthetics and Wearable Devices).

West Virginia University is the comprehensive Land Grant University of the State of West Virginia with a main campus enrollment of over 29,000 students, and a Carnegie Classification of Highest Research Activity (i.e., R1 University). Morgantown and vicinity has a population of about 62,000 residents and is ranked among the most livable small cities in the country. The community lies within a high technology corridor that also includes several federal research facilities, such as the NASA's Independent Verification and Validation Facility (IV&V), U.S. Department of Energy's National Energy Technology Laboratory, the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The city is located within reasonable driving distances from Pittsburgh, PA and Washington, DC. The WVU Statler College currently has seven academic departments, over 4,600 students, and 130 tenure stream faculty members with about 25 million in annual external research expenditures. The college is nationally recognized for high quality teaching and research as well as its excellent faculty and students. The IMSE Department has 15 faculty members, 280 undergraduate, and 120 graduate students. The Department offers degrees at the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. levels.

Job Requirements

Eligible candidates must hold at the time of appointment an earned doctorate in Industrial Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline, with at least one degree in Industrial Engineering. The successful candidates must have the ability to (1) teach lecture, laboratory or design courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, (2) develop and sustain an independent, nationally recognized, externally-sponsored research program, (3) collaborate within multi-disciplinary teams of faculty and other researchers across colleges and institutions, and (4) be engaged in professional activities. Candidates for the rank of Associate Professor must have an outstanding record of teaching, research and service.
