The Department of Facilities Maintenance is seeking a talented individual to fill the position of Senior HVAC Mechanic.

The purpose of this job is to perform heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system maintenance duties requiring specialized knowledge; to direct the work of crews and/or contractors on large or special projects; and to provide administrative support to an assigned supervisor.

100% of full time, 37.5 hours per week, 12 months per year, with anticipated start date of February 25, 2019. Schedule may change to include some evening or weekend hours, as needed. This position is a member of the West Valley-Mission Classified Employees Association (WVMCEA ), Operations & Support Services Employee Unit.

Work Location:
West Valley-Mission Community College District, located on the West Valley College campus, Saratoga, CA.

This position may be assigned to either Mission College or West Valley College, or re-assigned from one College to the other.

Salary and Benefits:

Anticipated Hiring Range:

$6,265$6,852 monthly (WVMCEA Operations & Support Salary Schedule, Range 70, Steps A-C).

Benefits include:

Educational growth incentive program from $45 to $225 monthly.

$500 longevity award annually after 10 years of service and $1,000 longevity award annually after 15 years of service.

Position is union affiliated.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

Provide direction and training to HVAC staff assisting with assigned projects.

Perform a variety of skilled maintenance work related to the layout, installation, maintenance and repair of heating, ventilation and air condition systems.

Perform the most difficult work related to programming, monitoring and trouble shooting automated energy management systems and software.

Diagnose major heating and air conditioning equipment problems and malfunctions; assess and determine assignment of repair projects to either in-house staff or outside contractors; lead major repair project with HVAC staff; coordinate outside repair project with vendors and contractors.

Provide assignments and training to HVAC staff working on skilled HVAC projects.

Instruct and advise users on proper operation of equipment.

Maintain records of repairs; develop time, material, and cost estimates.

Research and order or purchase parts necessary for HVAC repairs; research, evaluate, and make recommendations on new equipment purchases.

Consult with contractors regarding new construction specifications; attend and participate in new construction meeting to provide advice on system construction and alterations.

Meet with inspectors to ensure compliance with relevant building codes, safety regulations, and other requirements.

Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other district employees, and the public using principles of good customer service.

Foster an environment that embraces diversity, integrity, trust, and respect.

Be an integral team player, which involves flexibility, cooperation, and communication.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Any combination of experience and education that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:

1. Understanding of, and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.

2. Education:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

3. Experience:
Two years of responsible journey experience similar to HVAC Mechanic with the West Valley-Mission Community College District.
