Department/College Description
The Division of Development and Alumni Relations is dedicated to advancing the mission and vision of RIT. Strategically critical to achieving the university’s goals, the Division of Development and Alumni Relations nurtures lifelong, mutually beneficial relationships with alumni, parents, friends, faculty/staff and organizations resulting in deeper connections, greater volunteer engagement and increased philanthropic support. We are a team-oriented, highly collaborative Division working with all areas of the university to maximize fundraising opportunities and alumni involvement.


Detailed Job Description

Please note: There are currently two positions available-
Director of Development for College of Science AND the College of Health Science and Technology
Director of Development for Major Gifts and Scholarships



The Director of Development works closely with the university senior administrators, department leadership and faculty to raise the necessary support for identified priorities. He/she manages a portfolio of approximately 100 prospects, creates fund raising strategies for all prospects, develops relationships with donors, solicits major gifts above the $100,000 level and coordinates effective donor stewardship. The Director cultivates relationships with alumni, parents and other friends and collaborates with the Planned Giving team and the Corporate and Foundation Relations team to encourage donors to support RIT initiatives. The Director of Development reports to the Senior Director of Development and works with the Institute-wide development team on behalf of RIT.
The Director of Development is expected to work collaboratively and constantly seek ways to increase effectiveness and efficiency.

Director of Development for the College of Science and for the College of Health Sciences and Technology. The Director of Development has responsibility for developing and executing the fundraising strategies for the specific campaign priorities in conjunction with the dean and faculty of the college and the associate provost and director and faculty of the institute. The College of Science was among the first colleges to offer undergraduates hands-on research work in the applications of science and mathematics. The College of Health Sciences and Technology is RIT's ninth and newest college and is part of the larger Institute of Health Sciences and Technology and the IHST Research Center and Outreach Center. CHST focuses on educating future healthcare professionals and applying new technologies in the health care delivery.

Director of Development for Major Gifts and Scholarships. The Director of Development has responsibility for development and executing the fundraising strategies for campaign priorities related to broadly-based university programs with a special emphasis on general undergraduate scholarships and graduate aid. Fundraising for major gifts and scholarships helps to address the university's greatest needs and strategic initiatives necessary to fulfill the university's mission.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 100 prospects
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with donors
  • Create fund raising strategies for those prospects
  • Solicit gifts in the $100,000 -plus range and steward donors to the university
  • Work in collaboration with university staff to cultivate relationships



Job Requirements

Required Minimum Qualifications

Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree

Required Skills:

  • Minimum of 5 years of successful major gift fundraising or customer-centered constituent engagement or marketing/sales experience
  • High degree of computer literacy
  • Willingness to travel
  • Sophisticated interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • PLEASE NOTE: The individual hired for this position will be required to have a pre-employment Motor Vehicle check, and the Motor Vehicle Report must clear RIT's Safe Driving Policy (please refer to page 4)
