Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences
University of Lethbridge, Lethbridge, AB
The demand for qualified and well prepared health science graduates has never been more pressing. Meeting that challenge is the reason you will lead this cornerstone Faculty at the University of Lethbridge. As Dean, you will see the larger healthcare picture and respond by keeping the University’s Faculty of Health Sciences programming fresh in a rapidly changing environment.
The University of Lethbridge is one of Canada’s top-ranked comprehensive universities and leading research institutions. Alberta’s Destination University, the U of L attracts more than 8,700 undergraduate and graduate students from around the world to its campuses in Lethbridge and Calgary each year. It offers more than 150 undergraduate and 60 graduate programs in seven faculties and schools. We foster an environment that supports our students through excellent teaching, exposure to research, interaction with professors and instructors and academic advising as well as cultural, recreational and extracurricular programs.
The University of Lethbridge continues to grow and will soon open a new 36,000 square metre science and academic building – the Destination Project – which will advance transdisciplinary science research and learning opportunities and shape the future of both the U of L and southern Alberta.
As an inspiring leader with students, faculty members and staff, a member of the University’s senior leadership team, and the face of Health Sciences with governments, donors, the community, and healthcare systems, you will be comfortable in all of the facets of this role.
You will be a consensus leader that oversees innovative undergraduate programming in aboriginal health, addictions counseling, nursing, public health and therapeutic recreation.
Building on the successes of the Master of Nursing, Master of Science, the newly introduced Master of Health Management Services and the PhD in Population Studies in Health programs, you will be a champion for Health Science research initiatives.
Armed with confidence in the Faculty’s contributions to health and healthcare, you are well equipped to reach out to alumni and donors for their support, and are an enlightened steward of the Faculty’s finances, policies and processes.
Perhaps your greatest leadership credential is your ability to win the support of your people, engage them in the mission and empower them to excel as individuals and team members. A believer in providing the best possible student experience, you can express your belief in student-engaged learning as you prepare the next leaders of Canada’s health workforce.
