Assistant Professor in Native American Environmental Studies
University of Wisconsin-Madison

The Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is looking to hire a faculty member in Environmental Studies, working with Native American issues and communities.

This position is one of three faculty positions, part of a campus-wide cluster hiring initiative to add to the vibrant community of academic researchers at UW-Madison. Together, the three positions will advance research and education at the nexus of environment, health, and community in the Native American context. Participating units in this three-faculty cluster hire include the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies, the School of Nursing, and the School of Human Ecology. The successful candidate will be appointed in the Nelson Institute, with potential secondary appointments fitting the disciplinary background of the candidate.

We seek applications from those with expertise in any environmental area, especially environmental health. These include, but are not limited to: environmental epidemiology; air quality; water quality; food systems; energy resources and impacts; environmental policy; ecosystem management; and cultural significance of nature. In all cases, work should be conducted in a manner relevant and focused on Native peoples. A large range of disciplinary backgrounds will be considered, including, but not limited to: population/public health; soil, air, and water sciences; ecology; public policy; engineering; geography; and other aspects of social science, physical science, biological science, or the humanities pertinent to environmental issues and Native peoples. Job Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience, or combined education and experience, in conducting research related to environmental issues relevant to the purposes of this cluster
  • A record of research publication
  • One or more years of experience, or combined education and experience, in teaching at undergraduate or graduate levels in the environment or a related field.
