The School of Computer Science at the University of Auckland is currently looking for four early career academics to join our diverse and internationally renowned school as a:

  • Professional Teaching Fellow in Data Science
  • Professional Teaching Fellow in Computer Systems
  • Professional Teaching Fellow in Capstone
  • Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Data Science

Professional Teaching Fellow - Capstone Projects (20381)

The appointee will be in charge of coordinating and supervising undergraduate projects, and teaching into the undergraduate programme. Duties will include lecturing to large classes, and working with small groups in laboratory settings. Strong organisational skills are important. Experience with students, supervision of projects, and lecturing is essential. Our preference will be for applicants with expertise in software engineering.

Professional Teaching Fellow - Computer Systems (20382)

The appointee will be in charge of coordinating and teaching courses in the undergraduate programme and teaching in the undergraduate programme. Experience with students and lecturing is essential. Our preference will be for applicants with expertise in the Systems area of Computer Science, such as computer architecture, networks, cyber security, operating systems, parallel and distributed computing and cloud computing.

Professional Teaching Fellow - Data Science (20378)

The appointee will be in charge of coordinating and teaching courses in the undergraduate programme and teaching into the undergraduate programme. Experience with students and lecturing is essential. Our preference will be for applicants with expertise in Data Science pertaining to machine learning, artificial intelligence, data mining or data management. The various Data Science programs we offer are run jointly with our Department of Statistics, which invented R. We expect the successful candidate to contribute to the continuously growing success of these programs. Such contributions include high-calibre teaching of courses with many students as well as supervision of Capstone projects.

Lecturer/Senior Lecturer - Data Science (20382)

Lastly, we are seeking top candidates from any subfield of Data Science who focus on any of the following areas: machine learning, artificial intelligence, data mining or data management. Industrial experience and/or experience of collaborative research with industrial partners would be a significant advantage. The various Data Science programs we offer are run jointly with our Department of Statistics, which invented R. We expect the successful candidate to contribute to the continuously growing success of these programs. Such contributions include world-class research, high-calibre teaching of courses with many students as well as supervision of Capstone projects and dissertations at the Master and PhD level.

Our Ideal Lecture or Senior candidate will have the following:

  • A PhD
  • Preferably have spent some years as a Postdoc/Research Fellow
  • Demonstrated excellence in research
  • A commitment to high quality research-informed teaching of both undergraduate and graduate students
