The Staff Counselor (Per Diem) provides multi-culturally attuned clinical counseling services (i.e., therapy, assessment and crisis management) to undergraduate and graduate students at Otis College. The Staff Counselor per diem works collaboratively with the Interim Counseling Director and Student Health & Wellness Center staff to facilitate and support overall student wellness and success. This position reports directly to the Interim Counseling Director. The ideal candidate is passionate about working with a diverse creative student population and takes a collaborative approach to working with students and colleagues. The Staff Counselor should feel confident working independently and with a group. Expertise in working with international students is a strong plus. This is a part-time, non-exempt, fixed-term, role working from March – May 2019. The position reports directly to the Interim, Counseling Director.
•Maintains a multicultural perspective and sensitivity throughout all levels of his/her/their work.
•Provides short-term individual psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and case management.
•Uses clinical assessments as applicable to formulate diagnostic impressions and to track students’ symptoms and progress in treatment.
•Determines, with supervisor, those students requiring a higher level of care and/or referrals and assists students in connecting with referrals as needed.
•Maintains timely and comprehensive counseling records in an electronic health record database.
• Responds to acute student mental health crises, sometimes involving hospitalization of the student.
•Maintains mandatory licensing requirements.
•Other duties as assigned.
•Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Marriage Family Therapy or Clinical Psychology from an accredited school.
•1 year of licensed clinical experience. For a psychologist, counseling experience can be pre-doctoral internship.
•Must be able to work occasional evening and/or weekend hours to meet operational needs.
•Experience with various Electronic Health Record systems.
•At least 2 years of licensed clinical experience.
•Counseling experience with college age population, short-term therapy models, meditation/relaxation/anxiety interventions; Experience with diverse populations, creative populations.
•Multi-lingual is a plus.
