Kinesiology and Active Rehabilitation: Lecturer

The Department of Biomedical Physiology and Kinesiology (BPK) invites applications for a fulltime Lecturer with an emphasis on active rehabilitation.

A Ph.D. in a relevant discipline is preferred, but those with a professional degree or a Masters degree and relevant clinical experience may be considered. Eligible candidates are expected to have clinical, teaching, and research experience.

Demonstrated excellence in lecture and laboratory-based instruction at the advanced undergraduate level is required. Pedagogical training, as well as experience with curriculum development and/or contributions to the advancement of pedagogy, are strong assets.

The Lecturer will be responsible for redesigning and teaching BPK 481 (Musculoskeletal Disorders) and BPK 303 (Kinanthropometry). The Lecturer will also teach BPK 340 (Active Health: Behaviour and Promotion) and potentially other courses as needed, including BPK 241 (Sports Injuries: Prevention and Rehabilitation). The Lecturer will be responsible for instruction on: the principles of orthopedic physical assessment, prevention and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries, kinanthropometric assessments and applications, rehabilitation therapies (active, passive and manual techniques), counselling and communication, theories and models of health behaviour in the context of intervention and promotion strategies, medical report writing, disability management and interprofessional communication, collaboration, and referral at the advanced undergraduate level.

The Lecturer will be expected to engage in continued pedagogical and curricular enhancement, and may supervise undergraduate research projects. The Lecturer will liaise with professionals in the kinesiology community and potential employers of our Department’s students and graduates, as well as with relevant accrediting, certifying and professional organizations. The Lecturer will also provide service to the Department, such as membership on departmental committees and participation in departmental events.

The Department of Biomedical Physiology and Kinesiology (http://www.sfu.ca/bpk.html) takes a scientific approach to the study of human structure and function and their relation to health and movement. There are excellent teaching facilities available within the Department and the University. The Department has 25 research faculty and 7.5 continuing teaching faculty members and is committed to excellence in research and teaching in the biomedical sciences. We have research foci in Exercise and Environmental Physiology, Neuromechanics, Cardiovascular Physiology, Chronic Disease, Neuroscience, and we provide graduate training at the M.Sc. and Ph.D. levels. Our undergraduate program includes majors in Kinesiology, Biomedical Physiology, and Behavioural Neuroscience. Undergraduate courses include core and elective courses in kinesiology, physiology and neuroscience.
