Teacher Education Faculty
Harford Community College
The faculty member will teach a variety of teacher education courses, such as Introduction to Education, Processes and Acquisition of Reading, Avenues to Children's Literacy, and Assessment of Reading Instruction. The faculty member will also serve as a lead for the development, growth, and support of the department; participate in course development and outcomes assessments; serve on College committees, participate in official College events and ceremonies, and actively participate in College life; and perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
This is a 10-month, non-tenure-track faculty position scheduled to begin August 2019.
A master's degree in Reading, or in Education with a Reading Specialist certificate, and a minimum of two years of full-time or equivalent experience in teaching required, preferably at the secondary level. Community college level teaching experience is preferred.
Applicants will be evaluated on criteria including, but not limited to:
Experience writing curriculum.
Knowledge of Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) teacher education requirements.
Ability to teach education courses, including reading.
Experience using Blackboard or similar software.
Experience advising education students.
Ability to use various methods and technologies based on evidence-based pedagogies.
Ability to create materials based on the principles of universal design and/or ADA best practices.
Experience or ability in assessing student learning and reporting results for institutional accountability.
Demonstrated competency with and ability to utilize current technology and Learning Management Systems (LMS) to facilitate learning in a web-enhanced and online-only environment.
Well-articulated understanding of the role of community colleges and of their students.
Candidates will be asked to validate teaching experience. A teaching demonstration will be part of the interview process.
Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
