Faculty Positions in Computer Sciences



The Department of Computer Science at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) invites applications for multiple non-tenure-track positions, starting Fall 2019.

  • Three open-rank non-tenure track Lecturer positions. The subjects of interest include introductory programming courses, discrete mathematics, systems programming, operating systems, artificial intelligence, and related courses. Depending on the qualifications and experience, the successful candidates may be considered at the level of Lecturer I, II, III, or Senior Lecturer.   • Assistant Professor in Practice.   • Assistant Professor in Practice in Game-related areas. The focus is on game development, computer graphics, user interfaces and human-computer interaction, virtual/augmented reality, image processing, and related topics. Responsibilities include research, teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, and program development. An Assistant Professor in Practice is also required to establish an active research program in Computer Science or Computer Science education. Salary and start-up supporting packages for the positions are highly competitive. The initial appointments are for 1 to 3 years as indicated. The appointments may be renewed based on performance and department's needs.

Job Requirements


Required qualifications: Applicants for a Lecturer I position must have a master's degree in Computer Science or related field. This is a full-time appointment, and the initial appointment is for may be for one or two semesters or one academic year.

Applicants for a Lecturer II position must have a master's degree in Computer Science or related field. Lecturer II with at least two years of teaching experience and demonstrated high levels of performance. A Ph.D. degree in Computer Science or related area may be considered as a substitute for teaching experience. This is a full-time appointment, and the initial appointment is for one or two semesters or one academic year.

Applicants for a Lecturer III position must have a PhD degree in Computer Science or related field or at least five years teaching experience at UTSA or commensurate experience at another institution and demonstrated high levels of performance as indicated by formal review. This is a full-time appointment, and the initial appointment is for one to two years.

Applicants for a Senior Lecturer position must have a PhD degree in Computer Science or related field, teaching experience and qualifications comparable to those of faculty members in tenured positions, and demonstrated high levels of performance. This is a full-time appointment, and the initial appointment is for one to two years.

Applicants for an Assistant Professor in Practice position must have a Ph.D. degree and demonstrated excellence in teaching or professional experience in Computer Science or related field, as well as the potential for future professional achievement and/or community engagement/service. This is a full-time appointment, and the initial appointment is for two years.

About the Department and the University
The Department of Computer Science currently has 19 tenured/tenure-track faculty members, 10 full time instructors, and offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees supporting a dynamic and growing program with over 1,360 undergraduates and 76 graduate students, including 68 Ph.D. students. The major research units in the department include: the Institute for Cyber Security, which operates the FlexCloud and FlexFarm laboratories dedicated to cyber security research, and the Center for Infrastructure Assurance and Security (CIAS), which focuses on cyber security maturity of cities and communities and also conducts nation-wide Cyber Security Defense Competitions for college and high school students. The research activities and experimental facilities have been well supported by several federal research and infrastructure grants. UTSA recently received a large 5-year NSF CREST grant on investigating cloud security and privacy. CIAS recently received a large 5-year grant from the Department of Homeland Security to set up a national standards organization for information sharing and analysis. The Department recently also received a large 5-year grant from the Army Research Laboratory to investigate the modeling and prediction of cyber attacks as well as several grants from other funding agencies. UTSA undergraduate cyber security programs are collectively ranked #1 in a 2014 survey; the graduate programs are ranked #2 in a 2016 listing. The recently formed Open Cloud Institute provides additional resources to support faculty research. With nearly 32,000 students UTSA is the largest university in South Texas.
