Assistant Professor, Animal and Avian Sciences

Description: Assistant Professor (tenure track) These positions have a 70% Research and a 30% Teaching appointment.

Responsibilities: The Department of Animal and Avian Sciences at the University of Maryland is seeking to recruit three, tenure-track faculty members at the rank of Assistant Professor to compliment the Research and Teaching enterprises of our Department.

The successful candidates will be expected to develop independent research programs in at least one of our core research areas: Reproduction & Development, Nutrient Utilization & Metabolism (with special consideration for candidates working with ruminants), Genetics & Cell Biology, and Pathobiology & Infectious Diseases.

All successful candidates will be expected to conduct research in agriculturally-relevant species. Candidates will be required to establish and maintain an independent, extramurally funded research program and contribute to the educational mission of the department through teaching of undergraduate and/or graduate courses. Ample opportunities exist for intra-departmental collaborations with current faculty members as well as inter-departmental collaborations through the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources’ Strategic Initiatives (https://agnr.umd.edu/about/strategic-initiatives).

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications: include a doctorate in Animal Sciences, Veterinary Sciences, or a related discipline, and experience in agriculturally-relevant research and teaching. The selected candidates will be expected to establish an extramurally funded research program.

Preferred Qualifications: include those possessing postdoctoral experience, a demonstrated record of publication, and clear prospects or vision for extramural government, NGO, and/or private industry funding. Research in “Dual-purpose” and “One-Health” areas would be considered favorably, but is not required.

Salary & Benefits: The University offers a comprehensive benefits package. The position is a full-time 9-month academic year appointment. The opportunity exists to supplement salary through summer salary support from extramural funding.
