Director for Student Achievement

The ideal candidate for this position has extensive experience and demonstrated success related to student academic achievement strategies. The individual must be passionate about infusing cultural competence and pedagogy throughout a campus community and a broad knowledge of non-cognitive support resources that directly impact student success. Additionally, the successful candidate is skilled with creating and assessing learning outcomes across unit, department, and division levels. This candidate will work closely with the Office of Analytics and Planning on division-wide assessment efforts. In addition, the candidate will collaborate with Analytics and Planning to promote data literacy in the Student Affairs Division. The Director for Student Achievement provides supervision and oversight to the Learning Center and My College Success Network, and provides support to leaders in Student Affairs regarding the assessment of learning outcomes, including data collection, interpretation/analysis and data visualization. The My College Success Network is an empowerment program that is designed to welcome and support new students of color. The Learning Center assists students in credit and non-credit courses by promoting learning strategies and helping students with coursework.
Duties include, but are not limited to, supervising a staff of three full-time employees and serving as an indirect supervisor to one full-time and approximately forty part-time employees; budget management for two departmental units; serving on the Student Affairs Core Assessment Team; presenting to the College community regarding attainment gaps, equity, student success, and the importance of cross-cultural communication to foster a welcoming and inclusive environment at Harford Community College; and serving in leadership capacities to support and sustain college-wide efforts related to Achieving the Dream, Middle States accreditation, and the assessment of the strategic plan. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with other college units on the development of a Learning Commons model and will provide leadership in retention initiatives and in scaling the My College Success Network in an effort to eradicate attainment gaps due to income, race, gender, and ethnicity. The Student Affairs Division at Harford Community College is actively redesigning its support services and structures as part of its Future State project. Therefore, the successful candidate will have a leadership role in designing services to enhance student success as part of the Future State. With the redesign, other student services may possibly fall under the scope of the Director for Student Achievement. Therefore, a nimble, versatile candidate with extensive knowledge of a variety of student service areas is desired.
A master's degree in Education, Higher Education, Human Relations or a related field, and five to seven years of related experience, including promoting cultural competency, and supervising and evaluating student services are required.
Applicants must have knowledge of current technologies as they relate to student engagement and outcomes assessment. Proficiency in a Windows-based computer environment, advanced skills using MS Office programs; database software, student information system records software including Banner 9, DegreeWorks, and Blackboard. A demonstrated history of managing multiple tasks with attention to detail; a motivated/enthusiastic work style, coupled with superior relationship-building skills using a proactive, optimistic approach; possession of cross-generational outreach approaches; a solid understanding of the unique experiences of individuals from underserved backgrounds including but not limited to LGBTQ+, students of color, women, first generation, low income, and neurodiverse students; possession of a dynamic, positive professional demeanor with exceptional organizational skills; excellent communication skills; and an ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a broad range of internal and external constituents including students, employees, state-wide affinity group counterparts, faculty, alumni and staff.
Preference will be given to applicants who have community college experience, have led college-wide efforts to promote equity and student success, and have experience using technology for data analytics, outcomes assessment, and student engagement. Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
