Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is a leading public research university, with an enrollment of 40,000 students on the New Brunswick campus, located 45 minutes from New York City.

The Mason Gross School of the Arts is the premier public arts conservatory of New Jersey, with departments of Dance, Music, Theater, Visual Arts and Design, and Filmmaking with an enrollment of 1,100 professional degree students. Mason Gross also includes four divisions: Rutgers Print Center, Extension Division, Rutgers Center for Digital Filmmaking and Arts Online.

The Department of Dance serves over 175 BFA, BA and dance-minor degree students, and also offers two graduate degrees, a unique 5-year BFA/EdM degree certifying students in the K-12 education sector and a new 2-year MFA in Dance degree. Faculty includes 10 full-time and 15 part-time professional artist/scholar/educators. Department facilities feature 6 studios and faculty and student productions in 350-seat proscenium and 225-black-box venues as well as events in New York.
