University of Notre Dame: Keough School of Global Affairs: Initiative for Global Development

Location Notre Dame, IN
Open Date Sep 12, 2018
Deadline Nov 30, 2018 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time

Description
The Notre Dame Initiative for Global Development (NDIGD) within the Keough School of Global Affairs seeks to fill a postdoctoral research position focused on the Future of Work globally. This position will be responsible for producing policy-relevant research on this topic in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team at the NDIGD, as well as helping build the research capacity of the McKenna Center for Human Development and Global Business in the Keough School of Global Affairs.

Today the future of work and well-being in the United States and abroad is under considerable threat from rapid automation. A fourth and distinctly technological revolution is underway that is reshaping our global and domestic economic, societal, cultural and human environment. This could have long term detrimental repercussions for society writ large, if solutions are not developed using evidenced-based research to address new challenges.

The University of Notre Dame, located in northern Indiana, a state with one of the highest levels of employment and GDP generated from manufacturing, is uniquely positioned to conduct cutting-edge research and engage private sector leadership and public officials, both domestically and internationally, on the implications of this new trend.

We seek a researcher with a strong interest in developing research on current topics related to the Future of Work, including but not limited to: potential scenarios and outcomes; impact on multiple industries (health, energy, manufacturing, etc.); ethical challenges; social and economic impact; automation and corporate risk; public-private partnership opportunities, etc.

This appointment will be for up to two years from the date of hire with an annual salary of $48,450, plus benefits (https://hr.nd.edu/assets/235388/p1_benefit_summary_2018_121245.pdf).
