Description/Job Summary

Responsible to the President for providing leadership and direction in the planning, development, implementation, evaluation and ongoing improvement of the Mayor's Scholars Program, including partnerships, activities and events on campus and within the larger community.

Responsibilities/Duties

Essential Functions:

1.  Provide vision, leadership and management of Mayor's Scholars Program including:

  • Manifest the vision in a program design and implementation that is student-centered and reflects best practices for Promise Programs and community college student support and retention.

  • Use data to drive program design and program implementation, to assess progress and make program improvements.

  • Drive a high standard of implementation through effective work planning, project management and team management.

  • Lead regular internal cross-functional workgroup meetings.

2.  Communicate and advance MSP's program goals, outputs and outcomes to the President, BCCC Board of Trustees, the Mayor and other stakeholders effectively in oral and written presentations and reports by:

  • Advocating for MSP throughout the College and collaborating with Vice Presidents and their delegates for the resources, data and processes required for high-standard implementation.

  • Participating in professional, community and civic activities and organizations that enhance the image and mission of the College and promote the Mayor's Scholars Program.

  • Being the face of the Mayor's Scholars Program within the College and externally.

3.  Oversee MSP staff, including program-level and student support professionals.  Collaborate and integrate services with partners, contractors and stakeholders.

4.  Seek assistance and delegate, as appropriate.

5.  Perform related duties as assigned.

 

 

Knowledge and Abilities:

  1.  Ability to operate at an executive level, with the capacity to communicate and execute vision, strategy, program and organizational design, operational and technology management, data analytics and team management.

  2. Deep understanding of the student population targeted by the Mayor's Scholars Program, including academic and social-emotional aspects.

  3. Ability to collaborate and drive results effectively in a public institution.

  4. Understanding of current national best practices in Promise Programs and community college student support and retention.

  5. Knowledge of education enrollment processes (including admissions, advising, registration and payment options).

  6. Innovative, creative and resourceful.

  7. Knowledge of Windows operating environment and general information technology infrastructures including databases and enterprise systems.

  8. Effective communication skills for a team oriented environment.

  9. Ability to supervise, motivate and encourage productivity.

  10. Knowledge of professional protocol.

  11. Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Job Requirements

  1. Master's degree required.
  2. Experience in program design, implementation and evaluation utilizing data analytics and national best practices.
  3. Skills in the principles and practices of supervision, management, work planning and project management
  4. Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  5. Minimum of 3 years' experience in higher education or a related field.
