Professor / Associate Professor - Ian and Jayne Munro Chair in Food Safety
The Department of Food Science & Agricultural Chemistry - Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences of McGill University is seeking an outstanding candidate for the Ian and Jayne Munro Chair in Food Safety.
Appointment is at the rank of Professor/Associate Professor depending on the qualifications.
The selected applicant will have exceptional communication skills and will provide leadership to the mission of the Food Safety and Quality Program (FSQP) at McGill University https://mcgill.ca/macdonald/programs/fsqp and work for its successful implementation and promotion as well as fulfill administrative and teaching responsibilities.
The candidate is expected to lead a research program focused on the development of scientific solutions for issues related to microbial food safety as identified by the food industry and the Canadian government.
The successful candidate is expected to develop a strong externally-funded research program involving supervision and mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students and service to the university and scholarly communities.
The candidate will ensure delivery of a high-quality education within the food science/safety area, with a clear commitment to teaching excellence. The teaching will cover both graduate and undergraduate level courses.
The ideal candidate should have a good understanding of the commercial and regulatory environment, preferably of the Canadian/Quebec food industry, the ability to network with government and industry, as well as maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
The candidate will have a strong track record of scientific and professional achievements, acquired either in the private or public sectors, or in academia and a strong publication record in high impact journals. This will also include funding from national and international agencies.
Strong involvement in extension and outreach activities and liaison with regulatory agencies is required.
Academic achievements will include a doctoral degree in areas such as food science, food safety or food microbiology.
A working knowledge of French will be an asset.

The successful candidate that satisfies the eligibility conditions of the Canada Research Chair (CRC) program may be supported by the University for nomination to a Tier 2 Chair in Food Safety, which provides protected time for research within a full-time academic appointment.
Nominees for Tier 2 Chair positions must be emerging scholars and hold the rank of assistant or associate professors, or possess the necessary qualifications to be appointed to these levels.
A nominee who is more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree and has experienced legitimate career interruptions (e.g., maternity or parental leave, extended sick leave, clinical training, and family care) will be taken into consideration using the Tier 2 justifications process.
